(03-04-23) Mogadishu – Somalis have reacted with anger and disbelief to the revelations that the Speaker of Somalia’s Parliament Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur ‘Madobe’ is allegedly involved in the illegal possession of a prominent environmental activist’s property. Fatima Jibrell, a Somali-American environmental activist and co-founder of several organizations, recently accused the Speaker of unlawfully occupying her home in Baydhabo during an emotional interview with Hanoolaato channel.

Jibrell, who has dedicated her life to promoting peace and protecting the environment, returned to Somalia during the 1990s to help her people through a challenging period of migration, famine, and wars. Her tireless efforts have earned her numerous awards, including the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize. The allegations against the Speaker of Parliament have shocked many, as they represent a significant betrayal of trust by a high-ranking government official.

In the wake of the interview, Somalis from all walks of life expressed their outrage and called for immediate action to resolve the issue. They demand that the president, prime minister, and the two houses of parliament, as well as the South West administration, take responsibility and ensure that Jibrell’s property is returned to her without delay.

Jibrell has presented documents proving her ownership of the house since 1974, and many believe she has a strong case. Somalis are now urging the government to take a stand and support Jibrell in her fight for justice. The case has become a rallying point for Somali youth, who are calling on their leaders to demonstrate their commitment to upholding the law and protecting the rights of all people, regardless of their background or social status.

Social media platforms have been flooded with messages of support for Jibrell. The case has highlighted the need for transparency and accountability within the Somali government, and people are demanding that those in power be held responsible for any wrongdoing.

Somali activists and civil society organizations have also joined the call for action, demanding a thorough investigation into the allegations against the Speaker of Parliament. They assert that this case is just one example of a broader issue of corruption and abuse of power within the Somali government.

In response to the public outcry, some government officials have issued statements expressing concern over the allegations and promising to look into the matter. However, no concrete actions have been taken thus far, and many are skeptical of the government’s commitment to addressing the issue.

The controversy surrounding the illegal possession of Jibrell’s property has dealt a significant blow to the credibility of the Somali Parliament and its leaders. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether the government will take decisive action to rectify the injustice and restore public trust in the country’s institutions.
