(22-07-23) MOGADISHU – UN Envoy meets with Somalia’s Defence Minister and discusses security transition and ongoing drawdown
In an introductory meeting in Mogadishu on Saturday, United Nations Special Representative Catriona Laing met with Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, to discuss a range of topics centred on Somalia’s national security.
The discussion encompassed several key areas, including the ongoing drawdown of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), the security transition process in the country, and broader security developments. These topics are of significant importance as Somalia continues to work towards a future of improved national security and stability.
On her side, the UN envoy made it a point to reaffirm the UN’s continued support for Somalia’s security transition process.
