(28-01-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Five members of a single family were killed and six others injured in a suspected revenge attack in Saaho village, located in the western Mudug region of Somalia, on Saturday night.
Mudug region’s mayor, Faysal Sheikh Ali, confirmed the casualties, revealing that the attack claimed the lives of a man, his wife, his sister, and two nephews. The wounded include women and children, underscoring the tragedy’s breadth. Mayor Ali extended his condolences to the relatives and friends of those affected.
This incident is the latest in a series of revenge-related violence in the area. It closely follows the killing of four young men in a similar attack in Faragoy village, 20 km from Dhusamareeb, the administrative centre of Galmudug state.
Reports from local sources in the central regions of Galgaduud and Mudug suggest a worrying increase in such incidents in recent months. These acts of violence, deeply rooted in clan disputes, pose significant challenges to peace and stability in the region. The Somali government and regional authorities are under increasing pressure to address these outbreaks of violence.
