(17-07-24) BELEDWEYNE (Halqabsi News) A landmine explosion near a popular restaurant in Hawo Takao district, Beledweyne, has left two people dead and several injured. The blast occurred earlier today, killing a civilian and a security officer who were present at the scene.
The owner of the restaurant sustained injuries and has been taken to a local health centre for treatment. Security forces swiftly responded, cordoning off the area and conducting investigations. Local authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the attack.
Beledweyne has been a frequent target of Al-Shabaab militants, serving as a hub for civilian uprisings against the extremist group. This is not the first attack in the city this month; earlier in July, at least four people, including a Somali soldier, were killed in an Al-Shabaab bomb explosion targeting an ATMIS military base in Baledweyne.
