(16 Sep 2024) GALKAYO (Halqabsi News) – Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye ‘Qoorqoor’ has opened a peace dialogue between the Sa’ad Habargidir and Leelkase clans in Galkayo. The two clans have been embroiled in conflict in recent months in the Mudug region. The peace conference aims to de-escalate tensions and foster reconciliation, with local elders and clan leaders attending the event. The move has been welcomed by community leaders, who view it as a timely effort to prevent further bloodshed and stabilise the region.
President Qoorqoor has been in Galkayo for the past few days, where he held discussions with his Puntland counterpart, Said Abdullahi Deni. The talks culminated in a joint agreement to intensify peace efforts across the Mudug region, with both administrations pledging to work together to bring an end to the recurring clan hostilities and promote peaceful co-existence among local communities.
In his remarks at the peace dialogue, President Qoorqoor called for unity among the clans, urging them to seize this opportunity to settle their differences through dialogue. He expressed hope that the discussions would pave the way for lasting peace, not only in Galkayo but across the wider Mudug region.
