(24 Sep 2024) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) – Puntland’s Minister of Environment, Range, and Climate Change, Mohamed Abdirahman Farole, has announced a new directive that will prohibit the sale and use of plastic bags in retail shops across the region from 22 October 2024. The move builds on Puntland’s previous efforts to reduce plastic waste and environmental pollution.
Under the new directive, all retailers are required to adopt eco-friendly alternatives to plastic bags for their customers. The Ministry has assured businesses that it will provide support during the transition to sustainable packaging solutions.
Minister Farole emphasised that the ban is a critical step in Puntland’s ongoing efforts to promote a cleaner and healthier environment. “Together, we are making Puntland a greener, healthier place for all,” he stated, highlighting the collective responsibility to protect the environment.
