(02 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud today presided over a crucial meeting of the National Consultative Council (NCC) at the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu, following months of delays. The session brought together federal government officials and leaders from the federal member states to address urgent national challenges.
The meeting focused on strengthening the country’s security, with emphasis on intensifying the campaign against the Al-Shabaab militant group. Discussions also centred on advancing democratic processes, implementing previous NCC agreements, and improving cooperation between the federal government and regional administrations to foster peace and development.
“The meeting aims to accelerate the fight against Khawarij al-Shabab, advance Somalia’s democratization, and ensure the implementation of prior National Consultative Council agreements,” the Presidential Palace said in a statement. “There will also be discussions on state-building, federal-state collaboration, and ensuring peace and progress across the country,” the statement added.
The President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, was notably absent due to ongoing political disagreements with the federal government, particularly with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
In attendance were Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama, and the presidents of Jubaland, South West, Galmudug, and Hirshabelle, alongside the Mayor of Mogadishu.
