Somalia’s Education Ministry, in collaboration with the South West State Education Ministry, has launched the Accelerated Basic Education initiative in Baidoa. The five-year programme aims to provide educational opportunities to over 60,000 children and youth unable to access schooling, focusing on girls. The initiative emphasises Accelerated Basic Education (ABE) and Non-Formal Education (NFE) to enhance foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
The launch event was attended by federal and regional-level education ministries officials as well as representatives from the USAID-supported ABE programme. The initial phase of the project has already been implemented in selected districts of South West Somalia, setting the stage for a broader regional impact.
