(01 NOV 2024) LAS’ANOD (Halqabsi News) – Tensions between Somaliland and SSC-Khatumo forces have escalated into violent clashes along the contested Qorilugud border area. Heavy fighting broke out on Thursday, continuing into Friday morning, with both sides engaging in intense gunfire and artillery exchanges near Shangeed and Galgal Lake.
The renewed hostilities have led to casualties on both sides, local sources confirm. With Somaliland’s elections just days away on November 13th, concerns are growing over the conflict’s potential impact on the electoral process and regional stability.
As the conflict intensifies, both sides are mobilising troops to the frontlines, further raising tensions. Residents have been forced to flee their homes, seeking safety in nearby towns and villages. Schools and markets have shut down, disrupting daily life and worsening the humanitarian crisis.
