The Puntland Defence Forces have intensified their counter-terrorism operations, encircling the Al Miskat mountain range in the Bari region, where ISIS militants are believed to be hiding. According to a statement from Puntland’s Counter-Terrorism Operation, troops have strategically spread out across the area, cutting off all escape routes and approaching the militants from multiple directions.
“The forces have surrounded the Al Miskat mountains and moved in on the suspected hideouts of ISIS militants,” the statement read in part. Security operations are underway in Hamure and neighbouring areas as part of the broader crackdown.
To bolster civilian-military cooperation, commanders have engaged local communities, urging residents to sever ties with the militants. Residents were also issued a final warning to distance themselves from the terrorist group while they still had the chance. Puntland’s intensified operations underscore its commitment to rooting out extremism from the Bari region.
