Puntland security forces in Bari region have thwarted plots by terrorist elements intending to carry out attacks in the commercial city of Bosaso. Puntland security officials reported that the disrupted plans included explosions targeting parts of the Bari regional capital.
The security forces, working in coordination with intelligence agencies, prevented the attacks and confiscated explosive materials and weapons intended for use in the plots. Several suspects connected to the plans were arrested.
Bosaso security officials stated that investigations into the detained individuals are underway. Initial findings suggest they may be affiliated with the militant group Al-Shabaab.
The successful operation comes days after Puntland security agencies warned the public about potential terrorist attacks in key cities within the state. The warning followed Puntland’s recent offensive against the Islamic State group operating in the Bari mountains. Further details from the security agencies are expected soon.
