(05 June 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, on Wednesday attended the handover ceremony for Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), the newly appointed Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of the Banadir Region, held at the capital’s City Hall.
In his address, Minister Fiqi emphasised the strategic security connection between Mogadishu and the neighbouring Lower and Middle Shabelle regions. “The security of the capital is safeguarded from the Shabelle corridors,” he stated, pledging to accelerate clearing operations targeting Al-Shabaab remnants threatening the city’s stability.
The Minister also praised Muungaab’s extensive experience, noting his leadership during previous turbulent periods and his prominent role in counter-terrorism efforts while serving as Chair of the Military Court.
Muungaab’s return to public office comes at a pivotal moment for Mogadishu, as federal and regional authorities seek to strengthen coordinated responses to increasing militant activity in surrounding areas.
