(05 June 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – A suspected premature explosion occurred in the Barwaaqo neighbourhood, Gubta of Mogadishu’s Deyniile district on Wednesday evening, injuring individuals believed to have been preparing an improvised explosive device (IED), local sources have reported.
Security forces were dispatched to the scene, where they arrested several wounded suspects. Authorities also impounded a three-wheeled Bajaj vehicle allegedly connected to the transport of explosive materials.
Residents in the area reported hearing two loud blasts. “It shook the area , there were two heavy bangs,” one eyewitness conveyed to Halqabsi News.
Investigations are currently underway as officials endeavour to ascertain the full extent of the alleged bomb plot and any possible connections to organised militant factions. This incident follows a recent intensification of security operations targeting Al-Shabaab cells within the capital and its environs.
Meanwhile, media outlets affiliated with Al-Shabaab have presented a contrasting account, claiming the group executed an IED attack in the Deyniile district that targeted a residential building housing military personnel. According to their report, this attack resulted in two casualties, caused severe structural damage to the property, and destroyed a motorcycle within the compound. Somali authorities have not yet commented on these claims or the initial explosion.
