(18 June 2025) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) — The Puntland Electoral Commission (PEC) has suspended Mahbub Nur Said, Director of the Voter Registration Department, over what the commission described as repeated absenteeism and failure to follow official directives.
In a letter from the office of PEC Chairperson Ahmed Mohamud Omar, the director was accused of being regularly absent without valid excuse, neglecting duties, and failing to comply with internal instructions. The letter stated that the suspension is in line with Article 39, Clause 3 of the Puntland Civil Service Law, and includes a halt to salary and benefits. He has also been instructed not to report to the commission’s offices.
Sources familiar with the matter suggest that Mahbub, along with several other PEC members, recently started cooperation with the National Independent Election Commission (NIEC), a development that has added political complexity to the situation.
