(11-09-25) MOGADISHU (HN) — The Somali National Army (SNA) announced on Thursday that Ibrahim Yusuf Nur Mohamed, known by the alias Imran in Al-Shabaab circles, has surrendered to government forces.
Born in Hiiraan region in 2006, Ibrahim had been with the militant group for several years. Officials said he opted to take advantage of the government’s ongoing amnesty programme, which allows disillusioned youth to renounce extremist ideology and reintegrate into society.
Escaping the group’s influence and manipulation, Ibrahim voluntarily turned himself in to the SNA in search of a new life away from the dangers of Al-Shabaab. His defection adds to the growing number of militants abandoning the group, a trend attributed to intensified military operations and declining morale within its ranks.
