(22-09-25) MOGADISHU (HN) — Dekadaha FC, winners of the General Daud Championship, made a winning start to their CAF campaign after defeating Sudan’s Alzamala Sports Club 1-0 in a thrilling clash at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.
The match drew large crowds from across Nairobi and beyond, with Somali fans filling the stands to cheer their team. Senior club officials, the Managing Director of Mogadishu Port, and members of the Somali diaspora abroad were also in attendance.
The first half ended goalless, with Dekadaha squandering several chances. After the break, captain Aweys Aadan Iman “Xaaji” struck the decisive goal, sending fans into jubilant celebrations.
“This is a historic victory for the Somali people,” said Xaaji, joined by coach Abdirahman Hashi Hussein, who hailed the triumph as a moment of pride for the nation.
Among the fans was Ahmed Mohamed Ali “Taajir”, who flew in from Ireland to watch the match. He urged the Somali Football Federation to give greater support to Dekadaha’s technical staff, pointing to the team’s promising display.
Club chairman Yahye Sheikh Nur congratulated the squad but cautioned against complacency ahead of the return leg next Saturday. “We need even greater effort to secure qualification,” he stressed.
Mogadishu Port Director Mohamed Ali Nur “Americo”, attending in person, praised the players and called on the Somali diaspora to rally behind Dekadaha. “This victory belongs to all Somalis. I urge our people to turn out in large numbers for the second leg,” he said, adding that the squad would receive special rewards as promised before kickoff.
The result leaves Dekadaha in a strong position as they prepare for the decisive second leg, with hopes high of advancing further in the continental competition.
