(10-09-25) MOGADISHU (HN) — Puntland security forces have arrested two foreign fighters linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) group as part of an ongoing offensive against militants in the region.
According to the command of Operation Hilaac, the two men, both Ethiopian nationals, were apprehended in the Gaaca Valley as they attempted to move towards the port city of Bosaso. One of the men was reported to have some knowledge of the Somali language.
“The forces captured two foreigners from the fleeing remnants of ISIS militants as they tried to enter Bosaso. The operation took place in the Gaaca Valley,” the Puntland anti-terror command said in a statement.
Puntland authorities have previously detained ISIS-linked foreign fighters from Ethiopia, Morocco and the Middle East. During recent operations in the Cal Miskaad mountains, security forces also discovered dozens of foreign passports abandoned in militant hideouts, further underscoring the global reach of the group’s recruitment networks.
