(10-09-25) MOGADISHU (HN) — Somaliland’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has declared it will not recognise Somalia’s new E-Visa system, saying only visas issued by its own immigration offices will be valid.
Travellers will continue to obtain visas on arrival at Hargeisa’s Egal International Airport and other Somaliland airports. Airlines operating in the region have already complied with the directive.
While the administration says the policy is meant to ease travel, some Somaliland citizens warn it risks reinforcing separatism, as the world still views Somalia as one country.
Puntland has also rejected the E-Visa, requiring travellers to pay entry fees on arrival instead of using Mogadishu’s new digital platform.
