A senior Al-Shabaab militant, identified as Mohamed Osman Mohamed ‘Tutah,’ was killed in a wave of airstrikes conducted in parts of the Lower Shabelle and Middle Juba regions over the past 24 hours.
According to the federal security ministry, Tutah was the group’s deputy commander of the Amniyat (Intelligence) wing and the primary recipient of explosive supplies from overseas. The airstrikes targeted Al-Shabaab positions in Jilib, Mubarak, Ugunji, and Kunya Barrow, coinciding with major gains in the ongoing military offensive in Lower Shabelle, jointly led by the Somali National Army and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The “Silent Storm” Operation on Saturday liberated the strategic town of Awdheegle reducing the number of key bridges in the Lower Shabelle under Al-Shabaab control. The campaign has already reclaimed Barire and Sabiid & Anole bridges, securing the region and enhancing stability in nearby Banadir.
