(08-10-25) KIGALI (HN) — The Chief of the Somali National Armed Forces, General Odawaa Yusuf Raage, has met with Rwanda’s top military leadership to strengthen defence and security cooperation between the two nations. The meeting took place at the Rwanda Defence Force Headquarters in Kimihurura, where General Odawaa held talks with his counterpart, General M.K. Mubarakh, and Rwanda’s Minister of Defence.
Discussions focused on enhancing joint training, intelligence sharing, and broader defence collaboration. General Mubarakh welcomed the Somali delegation and pledged Rwanda’s support in implementing the outcomes of the meeting, reaffirming his country’s commitment to regional stability and cooperation.
Somalia has been deepening its defence ties with regional and international partners as it rebuilds its armed forces and prepares for the full handover of security responsibilities from the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). Rwanda, a key member of the Eastern Africa Standby Force, has been an active partner in supporting Somalia’s stabilisation and peacebuilding efforts.
