First Deputy Speaker of the Puntland Parliament, Mohamed Barri Shire, has warned that the Islamic State in Somalia (ISIS) militants have entrenched themselves within nomadic communities in the rugged Al Miskat mountains. Barri revealed that areas once cleared of the extremist group have witnessed its resurgence, citing the recent attack in Walisoor valley that claimed the life of elder Abdi Hayan Salah.
He underscored that Puntland forces had previously relied on the cooperation of nomads and local residents to curtail ISIS operations. However, he stressed that from now on, no community will be permitted to shelter or provide cover for the group.
The Deputy Speaker delivered his remarks at a meeting in Bosaso on Sunday, convened to rally support and solidarity for Puntland’s security forces in the fight against the ISIS group.
