(08-10-25) MOGADISHU (HN) — Defence Minister, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, and Acting Army Chief Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar (Gen. Khalid) met Wednesday with European Union Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro.
Talks focused on strengthening defence cooperation, expanding training, supplying equipment, and building the skills of the Somali National Army.
Fiqi thanked the EU for its continued support, stressing its role in accelerating operations against Al-Shabaab and enhancing Somalia’s defence capacity. General Marco Manzone, Commander of the EU Training Mission in Somalia, also attended.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Di Mauro met representatives of civil society and microfinance institutions, reaffirming the EU’s commitment to empowering communities and women while promoting inclusive, sustainable growth.
