Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Ismail Fartaag, and Police Commissioner, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi, on Sunday received a UNDP delegation led by Country Director Lioner Laurens at Police Headquarters in Mogadishu. The meeting highlighted cooperation to strengthen security institutions.
Discussions focused on fast-tracking priority projects under Somalia’s police reform agenda, with emphasis on improving policing standards and community safety.
Minister Fartaag stressed the need to build police capacity as the country assumes full security responsibility. He said joint programmes with UNDP would be key to providing training, tools, and infrastructure.
Mr. Laurens reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to support Somalia in delivering projects on time, noting that stronger collaboration would help reinforce the police force and promote stabilisation efforts.
