(10-12-25) MOGADISHU (HN) — The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) and Head of AUSSOM, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, has on Wednesday briefed Troop and Police Contributing Countries on Somalia’s security, humanitarian and stabilisation landscape. The engagement took place on the sidelines of the 20th Ordinary Meeting of African Chiefs of Defence Staff and Heads of Safety and Security Services, with senior Somali National Army representation led by Col. Mohamed Ahmed.
Ambassador Diene provided an update on the implementation of AUSSOM’s mandate and the mission’s role in supporting Somalia’s stabilisation efforts as the country moves towards assuming full security responsibilities. He underscored ongoing progress, noting that Somalia’s Ministry of Defence leadership is expected to join the discussions in Addis Ababa, reaffirming Somalia’s commitment to a coordinated and conditions-based transition.
The SRCC paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Somali forces and AU personnel, honouring those who have lost their lives in the service of peace. He extended appreciation to contributing countries for their continued support to the Somali Security Forces and AUSSOM, emphasising that sustained partnership remains essential to advancing peace, security and long-term development in Somalia.
