(10-12-25) MOGADISHU (HN) — Puntland security forces have killed three foreign ISIS militants and captured another during an intensified counter-terrorism sweep in the Al-Miskaad mountains, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The slain fighters were identified as nationals of Morocco, Ethiopia and Somalia, while the captured militant is said to be a Tanzanian citizen.
The clashes unfolded as Puntland’s Hilaa’ operation advanced deeper into the mountainous terrain, long used as a stronghold by ISIS-Somalia cells. Officials reported that the unit encountered a group of around forty militants who had recently robbed a nomadic family in the Dhidigale area, prompting troops to surround and engage them near the Baallade stream.
Authorities say the broader offensive aims to dismantle ISIS bases in the remote mountain range and improve security for communities affected by militant activity. Additional details on the ongoing operation and the condition of the captured fighter are expected as the offensive continues.
