Mogadishu, Somalia – A helicopter belonging to Russia’s UTair airline, participating in a UN humanitarian mission, was shelled at Mogadishu airport on January 23rd, according to the Russian Embassy in Djibouti. The embassy confirmed that no people were injured in the incident.

The shelling of the Russian helicopter raises concerns about the safety of UN missions in Somalia and the security situation in the country. The incident is currently under investigation, and the authorities are working to determine the cause of the attack.

The UN has been working to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Somalia, who have been affected by conflict and famine. The UN humanitarian mission in the country has faced various challenges, including security threats and access to areas in need of aid.

The Russian embassy in Djibouti did not provide any further information about the incident but emphasized that the safety of the crew and passengers was not compromised. The shelling of the helicopter is a reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Somalia and the need for continued efforts to stabilize the country.

The incident has sparked a response from the international community, with many expressing concern about the safety of UN missions and the security situation in Somalia. The UN is expected to provide an update on the situation in the coming days.
