Bosaso, Somalia – A mine explosion took place in the Qaw area of the Bari region in Puntland earlier this morning, resulting in fatal casualties. The blast targeted the commander of the Mawisley army in the Calmadow mountains of Sanaag region, Abdirashid Ali Hirey (Abees Dhuni), who was on patrol in the area. Hirey and two of his bodyguards were killed in the attack.
According to reports, security forces arrived at the scene and conducted a brief search operation for the perpetrators before removing the bodies. The situation in the area is now calm.
Alshabaab has claimed responsibility for the explosion. The deceased commander was known for his efforts in fighting against Al-Shabaab and Daesh in the mountainous region of Puntland. These terrorist groups have been known to attack both Puntland forces and local residents.
The loss of Hirey is a major blow to the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region. The authorities are investigating the incident and have called for calm as they work to bring those responsible to justice.
