Somali Government Issues Warning about Toxic Waste Barrels Washed Up on Adale Beach

(27-Feb-23) Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali government has issued a warning about barrels that have washed up on the beach in Adale district, located in the Middle Shabelle region. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has advised the public of potential risks associated with the unknown barrels found on the coast. A letter from the ministry has been sent to local authorities, expressing concern for the safety of residents.

According to the letter, the Federal Government of Somalia has been informed of the presence of unknown barrels in Adale district. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has quickly deployed a team of experts to assess the situation. In the meantime, the ministry has instructed residents to avoid public locations near the affected area until further notice.
