(21-Feb-23) Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Today marks the start of a three-day conference aimed at rebuilding, promoting peace and security, and facilitating development in the Lower Shabelle region of the Southwest State of Somalia. The conference is taking place at the Golden Tulip Hotel and brings together leaders and experts from the Somali Government, the African Union, and international organizations.
The conference themed “Lower Shabelle Reconciliation, Prosperity, and Social Healing & Reconstruction Initiative,” seeks to address the damages caused by years of instability caused by civil war, internal conflict, terrorism, drought, and natural disasters in Somalia. With a focus on rebuilding relationships at all levels, restoring people’s dignity and trust in governance systems and the rule of law, and providing necessary infrastructure, the conference is poised to make a significant impact on the region’s recovery.
The Lower Shabelle region has been particularly affected by the ongoing conflict, with many infrastructures in deplorable conditions. The expected outcome of the conference is to establish an effective platform, means, and strategies to stimulate and sustain peace in the region.
The conference is expected to deliver a sustainable peace plan for the Lower Shabelle region, which will enhance the region’s conditions and create a positive impact on people’s lives. The organizers hope to move towards a better future for the people of Lower Shabelle by providing them with the necessary support and resources for their development.
