07-03-23) Mogadishu – Al-Shabaab militants attacked a military base located in Jana Cabdalle, about 50 km northwest of Kismayo, early on March 7. The base was occupied by the American-trained Danab forces and Jubaland forces, and the attack resulted in heavy casualties on both sides.
According to reports, the attack began with a bomb explosion, which was followed by a direct confrontation between the attackers and the military. The intensity of the fight led to significant damage and loss of life, including an officer named Arab Mohamud, who was one of the guards of the Jubbaland presidency present at the time of the attack.
Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack and has stated that they have taken control of the entire camp. However, there is no independent confirmation of their claim.
This is not the first time that Al-Shabaab has targeted military bases and government installations in Somalia. The group has been carrying out a series of attacks in the region, which has resulted in the deaths of many Somalis.
The attack on the Jana Cabdalle base has once again raised concerns about the security situation in Somalia. It is imperative that the government takes urgent steps to prevent such attacks in the future and ensure the safety of the people.
