(21-03-23) Mogadishu – Al-Shabaab militia attacked a military post this morning, the Daru-Nicmo area under the Run-nirgood district in the Middle Shabelle region was targeted. The extremist group began the attack with a suicide bombing, which quickly escalated into a direct fight with government forces.

The government forces reportedly put up a resistance, but both sides suffered heavy losses during the confrontation. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack and stated that they killed 20 soldiers and injured 10 others. They also reported burning two vehicles and attacking the camp.

However, no independent sources have yet confirmed Al-Shabaab’s claims, and the government has yet to release any official information regarding the incident.

This latest attack is part of a continuing pattern of violence by Al-Shabaab, with previous attacks reported in Bardhere and Janay Abdalla earlier this month. Despite these repeated attacks, the Somali government has yet to take significant measures to address the threat posed by the extremist group.

This latest attack by Al-Shabaab in the Middle Shabelle region marks the third such attack on military bases and government officials this month, following previous attacks in Bardhere and Janay Abdalla.
