(07-03-23) Lusaka – Allegations of collusion between the Somali Embassy staff in Zambia and criminal gangs have come to light, with reports suggesting that businessmen from central regions of Somalia are being targeted for deportation. The accusations come after three businessmen were deported from Zambia, with claims that the embassy is involved in the illegal targeting of these individuals.
Among those targeted was businessman Hassan Qaloocow, who had lived in Zambia for 35 years. Qaloocow was deported from the country under unusual circumstances, with reports suggesting that the Somali Embassy staff in Zambia was involved in his forced removal.
According to reports, the Somali Ambassador to Zambia, Hawa Hassan Mohamed, allegedly wrote the deportation letters after the criminal gangs accused the targeted businessmen of being affiliated with al-Shabaab and pirates.
The allegations have caused concern among the Somali community in Zambia, with many fearing for their safety and livelihoods. The Zambian government has been informed of the allegations, and an investigation is reportedly underway.
It is unclear at this time what actions will be taken in response to these allegations, but the incident highlights the need for proper legal processes to be followed in cases of deportation. Businessmen like Qaloocow, who have lived in Zambia for decades, should not be subjected to arbitrary removal from the country without due process.
Halqabsi News has reached out to the Somali Embassy in Zambia for comment on the allegations but has not yet received a response.
