(08-03-23) Mogadishu – The National Assembly of Somalia has approved the Anti-Terrorism Bill, which has been in front of parliament for a decade. The director of NISA, Mahad Mohamed Salad, has welcomed the approval of the bill, which was debated in the past few days and approved by 143 members.
In a statement, Mahad praised the members of the House of Representatives for their approval of the bill, stating that this law is the backbone of the government’s fight against the Al-Shabaab group. He further added that the law has come at a crucial time when the government needs it the most to prevent terrorism and eliminate criminal activities related to terrorism.
The NISA director has urged the members of the upper house to approve the bill, which has been in the works for a long time, so that the challenges of terrorism in the country can be overcome.
The Anti-Terrorism Bill has been in front of parliament for ten years and has been brought back several times due to arguments. The approval of the bill is a significant step towards curbing terrorism in Somalia and will provide the necessary legal framework for the government to tackle terrorist activities effectively.
The bill will now be submitted to the upper house for approval, and the government is hopeful that it will receive swift approval so that it can be implemented to curb the increasing terrorist activities in the country.
