(01-Mar-23) Mogadishu, Somalia – The Mayor of Mogadishu, Yusuf Hussein Jimale (Madaale), and the Commander of the Somali Police Force, General Sulub Ahmed, held a joint press conference to discuss the recent spate of insecurity in the country’s capital, Mogadishu.
During the conference, the Governor of Banadir Region, Madaale, warned soldiers against harassing civilians and criticized security forces for failing to protect the people from violence. “It was really a painful thing that surprised us all and we did our best to put the people behind the criminal acts in jail and bring them to justice,” he said.
Meanwhile, General Sulub Ahmed expressed condolences to the families of civilians killed in recent violence, promising changes in how forces operate at checkpoints and the deployment of additional troops to ensure public safety.
The police chief also addressed the recent killings in Mogadishu claimed by Al-Shabaab and pledged to take action to safeguard civilians.
