(26-04-23) MOGADISHU – The first group of Somali citizens evacuated from war-torn Sudan arrived today at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, where they were warmly welcomed by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia.
The group, consisting of 18 individuals, was evacuated from the border region between Sudan and South Sudan, specifically from the Buluja area. These citizens found themselves caught in the crossfire amid escalating violence and conflict in Sudan.
Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Amb Abdirahman Noor Dinari, greeted the evacuees at Aden Adde Airport. Speaking to the National Media, he expressed gratitude to the Kenyan government for their assistance in the evacuation effort, stating that a Kenyan government plane had transported the Somali citizens from South Sudan.
While the first group of Somali citizens evacuated from war-torn Sudan arrived safely in Mogadishu today, many more remain stranded and awaiting evacuation as the conflict in the region continues to escalate. Some of these individuals are currently caught between the Sudan and Ethiopia border, facing uncertainty and danger.
