(30-04-23) MOGADISHU – In a series of joint operations conducted by the Somali government forces, numerous individuals involved in drug-related activities have been arrested in the Wadajir and Dharkenley districts of Mogadishu. The operations took place on the night of Saturday and throughout the day of Sunday, according to statements released by the Banadir regional police command.
In the Wadajir district, a large number of hashish addicts and a businessman were detained at the local police station. The statement from the police command confirmed that the accused would face legal consequences as per the law, emphasizing that the use of the drug is strictly prohibited. The suspect, identified as Abdiqadir Abdullahi Ahmed, was arrested alongside a substantial quantity of hashish.
A similar operation was carried out in the Dharkenley district, where the Banadir Regional Police and Military Police arrested a drug addict and another suspect accused of dealing drugs. The police stated that the detainees would be brought before the court to face strict legal action. During this operation, a significant amount of hashish and other drugs were seized.
In response to the increasing drug addiction rates in the capital city, the government has issued a general message urging Mogadishu residents to cooperate in the fight against drug addiction, particularly in the districts of the Banadir region. The press release encouraged citizens to report any security concerns by calling the short number 991.
These operations are part of the ongoing efforts to ensure security in Mogadishu, which currently faces threats from terrorism, gangs, and organized crime.
