(11-04-23) DUSAMAREB – The Galgaduud region in Galmudug state is on high alert as the war against the Al-Shabaab terrorist group continues. The Somali National armed forces have crossed from the Middle Shabelle region and entered the eastern areas of Galgaduud, which were under Al-Shabaab’s control for several years. This has prompted the Galgaduud region administration to instruct security agencies and district administrations to be on heightened alert.
Deputy Governor of Galgaduud, Hassan Gaboobe, announced in a letter that the second phase of the operation to clear Al-Shabaab is progressing rapidly in the region. The administration hopes to soon liberate the village of Elbur from the extremist group’s grasp.
In response to the growing threat of Al-Shabaab, the Galgaduud regional administration issued a statement outlining four directives for the district administrations and the general community:
- District and regional administrations are instructed to closely monitor the spread of Al-Shabaab to prevent the group from infiltrating the community.
- Vehicles entering the region’s districts should be inspected, particularly at security branches and police stations, to ensure the safety of the community.
- Homeowners and hotel proprietors must report any unfamiliar visitors to security agencies to prevent their establishments from becoming a refuge for Al-Shabaab members.
- All district administrations must be prepared to support the fight against Al-Shabaab and raise awareness within the community about the ongoing threat.
These directives aim to protect the community from the dangers posed by Al-Shabaab as the military continues its efforts to eliminate the group’s presence in the region. The heightened state of alert reflects the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability to the region and the country as a whole.
