(17-04-23) BAIDOA – Somali National Army and South West State forces have managed to liberate several areas in the Bay region of the South West state from the Al-Shabaab, marking the beginning of the second phase of the war against the militant organization.
The areas that have been retaken by the allied forces include Adegeow, Dhaidhayka, Tabarow, Walak, and Arbasale, which are situated approximately 45 kilometers north of Baidoa. According to reports, the armed forces continue to pursue members of the Al-Shabaab group who have been ousted from these territories.
Simultaneously, operations against Al-Shabaab are being conducted in various regions across the country, with rapid advancements occurring in many areas. The federal government of Somalia has claimed early success in the second phase of the war against the militant group, announcing that the armed forces have recently taken control of several territories in the Galgaduud region.
Somali Defense Ministry spokesman, General Abdullahi Ali Aanod, revealed that the forces had successfully taken control of El Ahmed, El Saban Sablaale, and El Ali Hassan areas, which are known for their water wells and grazing lands. He also mentioned that the army forces entered the Budbud area earlier today, which had been under Al-Shabaab’s control for some time, and were welcomed by the local residents.
The second phase of the war against Al-Shabaab is expected to involve the participation of forces from the Frontline States, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti, which will likely bolster the strength and effectiveness of the operations. As the allied forces continue their rapid advancements, the prospects of restoring peace and stability to the affected regions of Somalia seem increasingly promising.
