(18-04-23) MOGADISHU – The Somali government has announced a new security operation, dubbed “Ciiltire,” aimed at strengthening security in the country’s capital, Mogadishu. Officials from various security agencies convened today at the Somali Police Force headquarters to discuss the implementation of the operation and the Capital Arms Control Act.
The meeting, chaired by the Minister of State for the Ministry of Security, Mohamed Ali Hagaa, saw the attendance of the Governor of Banadir region, the police chief, the director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), the chairman of the military court, and other high-ranking officials.
The primary focus of the meeting was to enhance security measures within the capital and implement the Capital Arms Control Act, which is expected to contribute significantly to the reduction of illegal arms trafficking and possession. Heavy operations were announced as part of the Ciiltire initiative.
Reports were presented during the meeting by the commanders of the joint forces involved in the Ciiltire operation, including the Police, Security of Banadir Region, and Polizia Militare. These forces will actively collaborate with the Security Forces to ensure the success of the operation.
The Banadir regional administration expressed its support for the Ciiltire operation, praising the Department of Security and Strengthening for their efforts. In addition, the Armed Forces Judiciary Committee provided an in-depth analysis of the Capital Weapons Control Act and discussed how to effectively implement the law to maintain security and stability within Mogadishu.
The Somali government’s launch of the Ciiltire operation demonstrates its commitment to improving the security situation in the capital and addressing the challenges posed by illegal arms possession and trafficking.
