(27-04-23) LASANOOD – Somaliland forces have reportedly shelled the town of Lascaanod, the capital of the Sool region in northern Somalia, causing civilian casualties and extensive damage to property. Local sources have confirmed at least 10 injuries and an unspecified number of deaths resulting from the attack.
The artillery strikes have caused significant destruction in the city, particularly impacting houses belonging to civilians in the centre of the Sool region. Reports indicate a growing fear amongst the local population that the conflict may escalate further, leading to increased violence in Lascaanod.
This attack comes after a brief period of relative calm in the city, with opposing forces still positioned in close proximity to each other. Efforts to defuse the tension have failed thus far, and both sides have ignored calls for peace.
The ongoing conflict in Lascaanod has entered its third month, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of individuals and injuries to more than a thousand, the majority of whom are civilians. The situation remains volatile, and the future course of events remains uncertain as the conflict continues to spiral out of control.
