(06-04-23) MARKA – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has partnered with Somalia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education to support the expansion of educational infrastructure in Somalia. As a part of the Stabilization Through Education program, USAID has contributed to the construction of eight new classrooms, four latrines, a boundary wall, and an administrative office at Buufow Primary School in Marka.
In a statement on social media, USAID Somalia announced the completion of these projects. This partnership aims to improve access to quality education for students in Somalia, especially in areas affected by conflict and insecurity.
The newly built facilities, which also include the provision of essential office equipment, will allow Buufow Primary School to accommodate more students and provide them with a safer and more conducive learning environment. The school, located in the Lower Shabelle region, is a critical institution in the area, providing education for hundreds of children.
The Stabilization Through Education program, funded by USAID, focuses on increasing access to education, improving the quality of education, and strengthening the capacity of Somalia’s education system. The program has already made a significant impact on thousands of students across the country by constructing and rehabilitating schools, training teachers, and providing learning materials.
As Somalia continues to rebuild after years of conflict, support from organizations like USAID is invaluable in helping the country create a more resilient and inclusive education system. This partnership with the Ministry of Education highlights the importance of international cooperation in the pursuit of sustainable development and lasting peace in Somalia.
