(06-05-23) MOGADISHU – In a heart-wrenching incident, four siblings lost their lives when their house collapsed in the Shangani district of Mogadishu early Saturday morning. The children, aged between 16 and three years old, were sleeping outside due to the extreme heat when the tragedy occurred.
The father of the children, Jimale, spoke to local media, sharing the devastating news of his loss. He said that his children usually slept inside the house, but he had them sleep outside because of the unbearable heat that night. Fortunately, 11 other family members who lived in the same building managed to survive the disaster.
The now collapsed building, known as Sarta Shilinka, held historical significance and was a symbol depicted on the Somali currency. The tragic event has highlighted the need for improved safety measures and infrastructure in Mogadishu.
As the community mourns the loss of the four siblings, local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse. While the exact reason is yet to be determined, the age and structural integrity of the building are suspected to have played a significant role.
The incident has led to increased concern over the safety of other old and potentially hazardous buildings in the city. The local government is now under pressure to address these concerns and implement stricter regulations to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future.
