(03-05-23) MOGADISHU – The Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Fei Shengchao, met with the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoNDMA) Commissioner, Mahamuud Moallim, on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing humanitarian situation in the country. They both agreed to further enhance communication and cooperation to support Somalia in mitigating the negative impacts of natural disasters and other challenges.
In a tweet, Commissioner Moallim expressed his delight at the constructive meeting with Ambassador Shengchao, noting that they discussed a range of issues related to emergency response and other programs aimed at improving community resilience to various disasters. He also thanked the Ambassador for his support to the Somali community, especially during this critical time.
China has played an active role in providing aid and assistance to Somalia, which has faced a series of crises such as drought, flooding, and insecurity in recent years. This meeting signifies the ongoing commitment of both countries to address these pressing issues and work together towards a more resilient Somalia.
Ambassador Shengchao’s engagement with the SoNDMA also highlights China’s interest in deepening ties with Somalia and contributing to regional stability.
