(29-05-23) MOGADISHU – On Monday, Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo expressed his support for universal suffrage in the forthcoming district, regional, and federal elections. The endorsement came in a thoughtfully worded Facebook post on Monday.
“We welcome the general principles of the agreement reached by the leaders of the National Consultative Council on 27/5/2023,” Farmaajo stated in his post. He emphasised the importance of the Somali people directly electing their representatives in a system based on the principles of universal suffrage.
“The Somali people have been waiting to see the leaders and representatives they have elected with their votes, based on the multi-party system,” he added, highlighting the long-awaited political progression in the nation.
