(06-05-23) MOGADISHU – US Ambassador to Somalia, Larry André, on Saturday met with Galmudug President, Mohamed Abdi Kaariye (Qoorqoor), to discuss the ongoing partnership between US and Gallmudug State in supporting liberated communities and combating violent extremism in the counrty. The meeting highlighted the progress made by the Galmudug state in the ongoing battle against Al-Shabaab militants.
Galmudug state in central Somalia has been successful in liberating the towns of Harardhere, Galcad, and others from Al-Shabaab during the second phase of its offensive against the extremist group. This achievement showcases the courage and resilience of the people of Galmudug and Somalia as a whole, in their commitment to restoring peace and stability in the country.
During their meeting, Ambassador André reaffirmed the United States’ dedication to working alongside the Galmudug administration and supporting the Somali people in their efforts to build a more secure future. The US has been a key partner in providing training, equipment, and intelligence support to the Somali National Army and regional forces to bolster their capabilities in countering Al-Shabaab.

President Qoorqoor’s term is set to end in December 2024, with expectations for him to seek re-election. His administration has been widely praised for its continued progress in combating extremism and fostering collaboration with international partners.
