(23-05-23) MOGADISHU – On Monday evening, Somali police initiated a large-scale security operation beyond the country’s capital, Mogadishu. The targeted areas include villages along the Mogadishu-Afgoye corridor, with an emphasis on Elasha Biyaha and Tabeelaha Sheikh Ibrahim.
This expansive operation involves comprehensive house-to-house searches, conducted by hundreds of deployed soldiers, with the objective of securing the region and preempting potential Al-Shabaab attacks.
Security officials within the security agencies highlighted the persistent threat of Al-Shabaab, emphasising the importance of the current operation. The official confirmed the commitment to carry out these security sweeps as a routine measure, as long as the threat remains.
The deployment of hundreds of soldiers across Mogadishu’s suburbs, particularly those located along the Afgoye road, forms a vital part of this security initiative.
Recent months have witnessed improved security in the city, with a significant reduction in attacks on public spaces such as hotels, which have previously been targeted by militants. This enhanced security measure is part of the broader effort to maintain this progress and further fortify the city against potential threats.
