(14-05-23) MOGADISHU – Government forces in Mogadishu have successfully executed a planned operation in the Hodan district of the Banadir region, arresting multiple suspects, including the alleged perpetrator of a grenade attack on a security checkpoint, early on Sunday morning according to local officials.
The operation was prompted by an assault in the Universities neighbourhood in Hodan district, where a grenade was hurled at a security checkpoint. The retaliatory operation was reportedly a success, leading to the apprehension of the individual suspected of launching the attack.
“Upon investigation, our security forces were able to identify and apprehend the suspect behind the grenade incident,” said Abdirahman from the Mogadishu security forces. “We are currently conducting further inquiries to ensure stringent legal measures are taken against him.”
Adding to this, the security forces also arrested a man who, they claim, attacked and detained two women alleged to have been his accomplices in the assault. The women were reportedly arrested in the Haanta Dheer neighbourhood of the Dayniile district.
In a fortunate turn of events, officials revealed that the grenade attack did not result in any damages, as it took place early in the morning before the peak of daily activity.
“Despite the alarming incident, the situation has now been stabilized,” the official continued. “The flow of people and traffic has returned to its normal state.”
Mogadishu has seen a series of security operations recently, with the last significant event being the foiling of a direct attack by Al-Shabaab in Peace Park. The perpetrators and the explosives were apprehended before any harm could be done.
The city’s security landscape has been improving steadily, owing to a new strategic plan implemented by the federal government. “Our security forces have shown commendable vigilance, successfully thwarting attacks and acts of insecurity in Somalia’s capital,” the official concluded.
This latest successful operation underscores the ongoing transformation of Mogadishu’s security situation, marking a positive trajectory for a city striving to shake off the shadow of its troubled past.
