(12-05-23) MOGADISHU – Yusuf Hussein, the youth chairman of Dharkenley district in Mogadishu, was tragically shot and killed on Friday by three armed youths in the Kawa Godey neighbourhood of Dharkenley district in Mogadishu. The attack took place as Hussein left a mosque after attending Friday prayers.
Witnesses reported that the gunmen targeted Hussein, shooting him in the upper body before fleeing the scene. The late official had also attended a wedding ceremony earlier in the day. Those who knew him described him as a person of good character and hard work.
Abdikafi Makaran, the chairman of the youth of Banadir region, confirmed the sad news and expressed his condolences to Hussein’s family.
“May God have mercy on our brother, the Youth Commissioner of Dharkeynley District, Ugas Yusuf Hussein, who was killed in Manta while performing Friday prayers in front of the mosque. I send my deepest condolences to Samir’s family. May God bless us all. He was killed by an unjust hand. May God bless him,” Makaran said in a statement.
As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the motives behind it remain unclear. Somali security forces launched an investigation into the incident, and Mogadishu remains on high alert for further potential threats.
In recent months, Mogadishu has enjoyed relative calm from armed groups targeting government officials and security personnel. This latest incident underscores the ongoing challenges the Somali government faces in its efforts to establish peace and security in the capital city.
