(15-05-23) MOGADISHU – President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has called on Somali youth to actively engage in politics and contribute to the nation’s development. Speaking at a youth meeting held in honour of Somali Youth Day at SYL in Mogadishu on Monday, the President emphasized the crucial role that the younger generation can play in the country’s progress.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud encouraged the youth to pool their strength, voices, and wisdom in order to effect change, promote national unity, and fight corruption. He highlighted the importance of their involvement in implementing a multi-party system and the completion of the country’s constitution, which are essential for Somalia’s long-term stability and progress.

“You must want politics, and to seek it, you must be organized and have leadership and a system to work together to achieve what you want, then no one can stand in your way,” President Hassan said, stressing the need for the youth to be proactive in the political sphere.

In celebration of the May 15 commemoration, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, praised the creative efforts of young Somalis who showcased various forms of art and imagery that encapsulated the beauty and progress of their country. This vibrant display of culture and development not only emphasized the transformative changes Somalia has been undergoing but also served as a testament to the nation’s resilience and the potential of its youth in shaping a vibrant and hopeful narrative of the Somali state.

During the event, the youth participants shared their thoughts and suggestions for the betterment of the nation with the President. They also asked about the government’s plans for providing opportunities and addressing their rights. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud answered their questions and encouraged the youth to support the government in its efforts to establish the rule of law and good governance.

As the future leaders of Somalia, the youth have a unique opportunity to shape the nation’s trajectory. By taking up the challenge posed by President Hassan, they can help create a brighter future for their country and its people.
