(30-05-23) MOGADISHU — Somali National Army, with the aid of local residents, has successfully thwarted an attempted Al-Shabaab assault in the recently reclaimed town of Masagaway in the Galgudud region.
According to National media, early on Tuesday, government forces were well-prepared for the attack, having been alerted to movements by Alshabaab militants. In a tactical show of strength and resolve, the National Army dispersed the Al-Shabaab assailants, ending the conflict with an estimated 30 militants killed. Three Al-Shabaab vehicles were also seized, with a fourth being burned during the engagement.
The remnants of the Al-Shabaab forces fled the scene, and an ongoing operation is in place to track and capture the defeated militants. Despite the victory, three members of the National Forces sustained injuries during the operation. According to the government, all three are reported to be in stable condition and their health is improving.
The Somali National Army, in conjunction with the local residents and international allies, continues to make strides against Alshabaab militias. Their relentless pursuit has led to daily liberation of territories and successful interception of desperate Al-Shabaab attempts to resist the National Army and the Somali people.
